Taranjeet Singh is co-founder and CEO of Mem0, a memory layer for AI agents. He co-founded it with Deshraj Yadav, a friend since their undergraduate years, and has called it his seventh attempt at starting a company.
Seven Attempts Since 2012
"I took the first attempt in 2012," Singh said in a YC Root Access interview. He began his software engineering career at Paytm and joined Khatabook as its first growth engineer before moving to senior product manager, according to his Y Combinator profile. He built an AI tutoring app featured at Google I/O, co-created the open-source EvalAI platform with Yadav, and created what YC describes as the first GPT app store, which grew to more than a million users.
Hearing Users Say a Viral App Forgot Them
In December 2023 Singh and Yadav built a consumer app, Sadguru AI, that went viral in India. A common complaint was that it was "kind of dumb because it doesn't remember anything about my meditative journey," Singh said. The pair traced the problem to language models being stateless. They applied to Y Combinator in 2024 under the name Embedchain, and after a YC retreat they relaunched as Mem0 within about 36 hours.
