Co-founder and CEO · Confident AI
DeepEval creator Ex-Google
Ip created DeepEval so engineers can test LLM apps the way they write unit tests, then built Confident AI so whole teams can run those tests together.
Jeffrey Ip is co-founder and CEO of Confident AI, an LLM evaluation platform built around DeepEval, the open-source framework he created. He runs the company with co-founder Kritin Vongthongsri.
Starting DeepEval After Google and Microsoft
Ip worked as a software engineer at Google, scaling YouTube's creator studio infrastructure, and at Microsoft, building document recommenders for Office 365, according to Y Combinator. He started DeepEval so engineers could write evaluation metrics for their own use cases the way they write unit tests, and the open-source package became the engine behind Confident AI's hosted tools for datasets, CI evals, tracing, and red teaming.
Bootstrapping into Y Combinator
In a post on Confident AI's blog he wrote that open-source growth, not advertising, got the team into Y Combinator's winter 2025 batch. “What started off as a bootstrapped open-source package became the thing that got us into YC,” he wrote. Looking ahead, he said the plan is simple: “We're going to double-down on providing the best LLM evaluation for everyone.”
