Gabriel Bayomi
Co-founder and CEO
Openlayer
Gabriel Bayomi is co-founder and CEO of Openlayer, a platform for evaluating, monitoring, and governing AI systems. He founded it with Rishab Ramanathan and Vikas Nair, fellow machine learning engineers at Apple.
Working on Siri After Carnegie Mellon
"I'm a Brazilian engineer," Bayomi wrote on his Y Combinator profile. He completed a master's in computer science at Carnegie Mellon, where he worked on Amazon's Alexa Prize project, and then joined Apple as a machine learning engineer working across Siri.
Testing Whether Siri Worked When Someone Called 911
At Apple the founders built models for Siri and Vision Pro and kept rebuilding the same evaluation infrastructure, because no shared system existed, Openlayer's about page says. "At Apple we could test that Siri worked when someone called 911, but never anticipate every real-world edge case, such as a baby crying, road noise, or a HomePod answering from another room." They founded the company in 2021 to catch those cases before shipping.
Race Capital led Openlayer's $14.5 million Series A. "When enterprises deploy AI, there's no room for error," Bayomi said in the announcement.
