Web data for AI Open source

Why watch

Peffer bet his company on Firecrawl because every AI team needs clean web data and kept rebuilding the same broken scrapers.

Caleb Peffer is co-founder and CEO of Firecrawl, an API that turns websites into data for AI applications. He co-founded it with Eric Ciarla and Nicolas Silberstein Camara after the three built Mendable, an AI search product.

Starting Companies at the University of New Hampshire

Peffer studied at the University of New Hampshire, according to SVTR, which lists FlutterBricks and HallHub among the companies he worked on before Mendable. He and his co-founders went through Y Combinator's Summer 2022 batch, Firecrawl's about page says.

Fighting Scrapers While Running Mendable

As co-founder and CEO of Mendable, Peffer sold AI search to companies including Snap, DoorDash, MongoDB, and Coinbase. Building it meant extracting reliable data from customers' websites, and the founders kept wading through edge cases such as JavaScript rendering and inconsistent sitemaps, The Founders Pack reported. Firecrawl came out of that work: a tool to crawl a URL and return clean markdown for AI models. The company is based in San Francisco, California.
