Will Bryk is co-founder and CEO of Exa, which builds search for AI agents. He started the company with Jeffrey Wang, his college roommate.
Wanting to Fix the News in High School
"I would say it's a life mission," Bryk said on the a16z Podcast. As a child he cared about finding the highest quality knowledge, and in high school he wanted to start a new type of news organization. He came to Harvard wanting to study physics, he told EO Magazine.
Building a Search Engine with His Roommate
At Harvard he roomed with Wang, and the two built a search engine that crowdsourced the highest quality links. In 2021, he said, transformers got good enough to build a better search than Google. "GPT-3, however, felt like this new thing that could actually understand the subtleties of what you're saying," he told Sacra.
