Co-founder and CEO

Airbyte

Series B+ Data prep & pipelines
Why watch Tricot wants data integration pipelines to become a commodity teams can extend, instead of a one-off project for every SaaS source.

Michel Tricot is co-founder and CEO of Airbyte, the open-source data integration company he started with John Lafleur. He is originally from France.

Moving Data for LiveRamp

He came to the United States in 2011 to join LiveRamp, then a small startup, according to Datacast. He became head of integrations and director of engineering, and his team built more than 1,000 connectors that moved hundreds of terabytes of data a day. After LiveRamp's acquisition and IPO he joined rideOS as director of engineering, where he saw companies solving the same data problem again and again.

The COVID Batch at Y Combinator

He left rideOS in July 2019 and spent months brainstorming with Lafleur, he told James Le. "Every idea sounds good on paper," he said. They went through Y Combinator in January 2020, "the famous COVID batch where we went from being in person to fully remote," he told 8VC. By July they still had not built anything, so they gave themselves one month to find traction with a product. That product was the ETL tool that became Airbyte.
