Co-founder and CEO

Labelbox

Series D Human annotation & labeling
Why watch Sharma built labeling software so computer-vision teams can train models without reinventing annotation infrastructure every time.

Manu Sharma is co-founder and CEO of Labelbox, which he started in 2018 with Brian Rieger and Dan Rasmuson. He studied aerospace engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Stanford University, according to his site.

Satellite Images at Planet Labs

Before Labelbox he spent three and a half years at DroneDeploy and then joined Planet Labs to lead its data analytics platform. At Planet, engineers were trying to build computer vision applications from the hundreds of satellite images the company collected every day, he told First Round Review, and labeling that data was a new and messy problem.

Launching on Reddit

Labelbox was his third business with Rieger, he told Tau Ventures. They moved to a low-cost place outside the Bay Area, built the product on nights and weekends and launched it on Reddit. Within a couple of months they were generating revenue and decided to raise funding.
