Gade researched document clustering in graduate school, worked on Bing's search engine at Microsoft, and led data engineering at Twitter and Pinterest, according to the Datacast podcast.
Explaining News Feed Rankings at Facebook
At Facebook he led the News Feed ranking platform, which powered recommendations such as People You May Know. His team built the "Why am I seeing this?" explainability feature. As ranking moved to complex deep learning models, he said, users kept asking "Why am I seeing this story?" and the company felt caught off guard. The team began adding guardrails, data integrity checks, and debugging tools, the work that led to Fiddler.
