Offensive security GitHub Copilot creator
De Moor is building XBOW so companies can run pentests as often as they ship code, with an AI that proves every bug it finds.
Oege de Moor is founder and CEO of XBOW, which uses AI to automate offensive security testing. He created GitHub Copilot and, before that, founded Semmle, according to Sequoia's Training Data podcast.
Taking a Sabbatical at Microsoft
De Moor was a computer science professor at the University of Oxford in England, working on programming-language theory, he told Hacker Noon. On a sabbatical at Microsoft, working with a large codebase, he kept wishing he could ask deep questions of the code, "like a database that indexed the source for easy investigation."
Spinning Semmle Out of the University
That idea became Semmle, started in 2006. It was a spin-out set up by de Moor with former members of the university's Department of Computer Science, based on their research on program analysis, the department says. GitHub later acquired Semmle, where de Moor went on to create Copilot.
