Recruiting Marketplace
Carollo keeps rebuilding Dover around how startups hire - first as recruiting ops software, now as a marketplace for fractional recruiters with a free ATS.
George Carollo is co-founder of Dover, the recruiting platform he started in 2019 with his friends Max and Anvisha, according to SaaS Club.
Hiring a Financial Analyst on LinkedIn
Earlier in his career, on a finance team, he was asked to hire a financial analyst, he told Mixergy. He posted the job on LinkedIn and Indeed and got about 200 applicants over a week.
At his previous company, Top Funnel, he sold tools to recruiters.
Nine Months as Recruiters
Max and Anvisha had just pivoted from real estate to recruiting when they asked him to join. Dover had no product, website or name for its first customers. For nine months the three reviewed resumes and ran interviews by hand while working out what to build; Carollo's job was mostly reading resumes.
Losing Product-Market Fit in the 2022 Hiring Crash
Dover grew its Autopilot product from about $1 million to $15 million, then the 2022 hiring crash deleted its market almost overnight, according to the Before It Clicked podcast. Revenue fell from $15 million to $1.8 million. Dover launched a free ATS, now used by about 1,000 companies, and several micro-products, none of which fixed the core issue.
The company found its second act in a marketplace of fractional recruiters, which it now pairs with the free ATS, according to Dover. On the podcast Dover was described as a lean, profitable business doing about $6 million in revenue.
