Data quality Growth
Shmukler is bringing product-and-growth instincts from LinkedIn, Wealthfront, and Instacart to Anomalo's bet that AI can catch unknown data bugs before dashboards lie.
Elliot Shmukler is co-founder and CEO of Anomalo, which uses machine learning to find problems in enterprise data without hand-written rules. He started it with Jeremy Stanley, a former Instacart colleague.
Product Leadership at Wealthfront
Before Anomalo he was Instacart's chief growth officer. According to First Round Review, his earlier stops included Wealthfront, where he was vice president of product and growth, and product leadership roles at LinkedIn and eBay.
The Costco Feed With No Meat
At Instacart, Stanley was vice president of data science. Shmukler has told the story of a day when orders from Costco, an important retailer on Instacart, were down by 50%, and the product, engineering and analytics teams went into fire-fighting mode. The cause was a Costco data feed with no meat in it. Instacart's rules-based quality system had missed it. "No one anticipated that one day we'd get a meat-less feed from Costco, so no one thought to write a rule to check for that condition," he told CIO Bulletin.
"It made me realize at the time that there had to be a better way to assess data quality," he said. "And that's why we founded Anomalo."
