Stephen Whitworth

Co-founder and CEO

incident.io

Series B+ AI incident & on-call
Why watch Whitworth built incident.io so chaotic outages become a shared Slack-native craft on-call engineers can run without bolting six tools together.

Stephen Whitworth is co-founder and CEO of incident.io, the incident management company he started with Chris Evans and Pete Hamilton. The three met as engineers at Monzo.

Teaching Himself to Code Before Hailo

He came close to becoming an accountant, according to incident.io. He had a graduate offer from Ernst & Young and a year to kill before it started, so he taught himself to code and cold pitched a startup called Hailo. A few startups later, including a fraud detection company started with old Hailo friends, he ended up at Monzo.

Monzo's Internal Incident Tool

incident.io began as a side project in 2020, Insight Partners reports. Evans had built internal incident tooling at Monzo. "My cofounder, Chris, had built internal tooling that was so much better than what I'd ever seen on the market before," Whitworth said. "We know this is a universal problem, so let's go build a company to solve it." A single tweet generated more than 500 demo requests.
